Orange is located approximately 265 km north-west of Sydney, around a 3-hour drive from the M4 toll gates.

There are two scenic routes through the Blue Mountains:

Via Bells Line of Road
Take the M2 through Windsor, then follow Bells Line of Road to Lithgow. This route is quieter and less travelled, with winding roads and beautiful views.

Via the Great Western Highway
Take the M4 through Parramatta and Emu Plains, over the mountains and down Victoria Pass to Lithgow. This is the most commonly used route. The highway is currently undergoing upgrades, so occasional delays may occur.

Both routes offer stunning scenery and pass through charming mountain towns — perfect for a coffee or snack stop along the way.

From Lithgow, follow signs to Bathurst, then continue on to Orange.

From Orange to Cargo Road Wines
Once in Orange, follow Summer Street / Mitchell Highway west, travelling straight through the CBD and all roundabouts.

At the final roundabout, turn onto Coronation Drive, which becomes Cargo Road.
Cargo Road Wines is 10.7 km from this point and the drive takes approximately 12 minutes.

Along the way you’ll pass apple and cherry orchards, the village of Nashdale, and enjoy views of Mount Canobolas to your left. After Nashdale, you’ll climb Lidster Hill — slow down as the winery is just over the crest, approximately 900 metres on the right-hand side. Look for the large Cargo Road Wines sign.

From Cowra, Canowindra, Wellington & the West
Travel to Canowindra and follow the signs for “Orange via Cargo.”

Around 4 km out of Canowindra, take the right-hand turn signed “Orange via Cargo”.

Continue through the village of Cargo. The winery is approximately 25 km from Cargo, located on the left-hand side as you climb Lidster Hill.

This is a particularly scenic drive through farmland, orchards and vineyards, with views across the Great Dividing Range and Mount Canobolas in the distance. Allow approximately 15 minutes from Cargo.
